Family Matters

This month my amazing friend/co-worker/sisterfromanothermother Jess and I were interviewed by Footwear Plus Magazine. It's a cool article- you should check it out. You can read it by CLICKING HERE and going to "current issue" then go to page 18. Unless you have super human vision... in that case, here you go. Read it here....

I've told you guys about Jess before and I've asked her to be a contributor to this blog but she's kinda shy ;)
Jess and I have been friends since we we can remember and now have the amazing privilege of working together and being married to two amazing dudes that genuinely get along like long lost soul mates. It's super cute.
It's amazing to have grown up together and to now travel to China together to design our respective shoe lines. I love her and am so proud of her!!

This is one of my favorite photos of us as kids. We were in Hawaii and I remember saying something like "Take a picture of us and I'm going to pretend like I've been massaging her all day!"
What a dork.

I LOVE YOU JESS!

Christmas Parties: Part Deux

So the second party was my work party! Since it's my dad's company it was held at my parents house, which is always nice. I felt right at home cause, well... I kind of was.
(My former home of course)

Any-hoo... I always like to use holiday parties as an excuse to dress up and sometimes go over the top.

I wore a Betsey Johnson dress and my favorite holiday time shoes- my pretty glittery Louboutins. I attempted my very first up-do and was pleasantly surprised if I do say so myself ;)

I got this necklace from that jewelry party I went to last month... Love it! It reminds me of a skull in Mickey Mouse ears.

I wore heavy eye makeup and big ol tranny lashes. I LOVE fake lashes and any excuse to use them!
My lovely family :)
My sister, dad, mom and baby sis... who depressingly isn't a baby at all anymore :(

My Tim and his Bentley... and my "brother" Tomas who is the amazingly talented L.A.M.B. footwear designer
It was a super fun night with friends family and tequila shots.

(sorry for the kinda crappy/inconsistently lit images)

Good News for bebe Fans!

So I can finally tell you the news, since it's officially public:

July 27 (Reuters) - Mall-based women's apparel retailer Bebe Stores Inc (BEBE.O) said it entered into a five-year licensing agreement with Titan Industries Inc to design, manufacture and distribute non-casual footwear for women.

The Brisbane, California-based retailer said the new bebe shoe collection will be sold in bebe stores in the United States and Canada as well as select specialty and department stores worldwide from early spring 2010.

The shoes will be priced in a range from $89 to $169 at retail stores, the company said in a statement.

Titan was created in 1998 for the sole purpose of licensing shoes under the bebe brand, Titan's Chief Executive Joe Ouaknine said.

Yaaaaaa buddies! Bebe is going to back in Department stores! We are very excited at Titan to be back "in bed" with the brand that WE started! Hooray! Something you wont hear anywhere else? The designer is the same designer as our LAMB shoes! Exciting, no??

Better Late Than Never...

So I feel like a bit of a douche because I am SO late on this. I'm supposed to be your "insider" and I totally forgot to write about this! Shame on me.

Anyway, some of you may have heard that the company I work for, Titan Industries, is re-launching the Charles Jourdan brand. We launched the shoes this last show to a pretty good response, though honestly- not what we hoped for. There are some REALLY great shoes but overall it wasn't what the launch should have been.
Luckily though, they've taken action already and hired a new designer! Now THAT my friends, is inside information ;)

The ads look great though, right!? I love them and think they did a great job! Jourdan was famous for their sexy racy ads and the one below, the Footwear News cover, is so 80's h-o-t!

These are 2 of my favorite shoes from the collection. They won't be available in stores until next year but luck me... I got my hands on um! Bwa-ha ha ha!!

An introduction... (repost/revised)

I just wanted to repost my intro for those new comers to my blog. I've revised the end since I started doing Harajuku Loves since I started this blog. :)

So, a little about me and why I think I can call myself The Shoe Girl.

My name is Celine and I grew up in Huntington Beach, California. I like to joke that I was born in high heels, and although that's obviously not true, I was born with the "shoe bug" in my blood.
My father, a former professional soccer player, came to the US from Morocco in the 70's. He started off as a shoe salesmen (insert Al Bundy joke here) and had a natural talent for it. He worked his way up and eventually co-founded a company called French Follies. They made cute little espadrilles and ballet inspired shoes. From there he went on to Guess and Charles David footwear, where he eventually became President of the company and brought it to its height of popularity in the late 80's.

I was so lucky to grow up around shoes. I was the only girl in the 8th grade wearing the kick ass ankle boots Guess was famous for... and remember those Guess jellies?? Yep. I had those too. And at a whopping hundred bucks a pair, let's just say I made a lot of new friends when I came to school in those! Thats the first time I felt the power of a hot shoe.

In the 90's, my dad left Charles David/Guess Footwear to pursue a new venture... bebe Footwear! It was his first shoe license, and it was super successful. He also started his own line with his namesake, Joey O. From there, he got the licenses for lines like Laundry by Shelly Segal footwear, Antik Denim footwear, Playboy footwear, Zinc foowear, Hale Bob footwear, Badgley Mischka footwear, Betsey Johnson footwear, Betseyville footwear, L.A.M.B. Footwear, Harajuku Lovers footwear, Jill Stuart footwear, and JLO Footwear. Awesome, right!? :) did I type "footwear" enough?

So... like I said, shoes are in my blood! I realized this at an early age, when I would go into my mom's closet and pull out her shoes and clear off my book shelves, fill them with shoes, and put a sign up that said "Shoe Show". I didn't really know what it meant, other than that was where my dad was always flying off to. Shoe shows. I wanted to be a part of it!
I went to design school in Milan, Italy when I was 20. My professors at Ars Sutoria taught me all about making shoes, including sketching, pattern making, leather tanning, and lots of technical shoe stuff. It was intense.

From shoe school to designer! After graduating from my shoe program I went back home and started working as the assistant to the designer of my dad's company, Titan Industries. At the time, we were only making bebe and Joey O Footwear, and were about to go after our second license, JLO Footwear. I was a part of that project and I loved it! It was so exciting putting what I had learned to use. I was off to China and working my butt off. I was the assistant to our head designer for a little over a year when I got offered the job of taking over as the designer for Playboy. It wasn't anything I had ever thought I would do, but it was a chance to be my own designer! No more assisting!!! I took it! Then, a few months after accepting the position as designer for Playboy, I was offered another line; Zinc footwear! I took it!!! I loved working with Zinc. The clothing was cute and the shoes were much more "my style".

Later still, about a year ago, I was given the job as designer of JLO footwear. I also recently got the job of designing the Harajuku Lovers collection which we launched in August this year. I love this new collection and I can't wait for them to be available in stores! JLO is an international only brand, so I never get to see the fruits of my labor.

I love my job! I get to work with shoes every day. It's my job to look at shoes in magazines, online, in stores, and on the streets. It's a dream job honestly, and I feel lucky every day. My obsession is my job! So cool!

So anyway, here I am. Here's my blog. I hope you've enjoyed reading it so far. It's been fun for me and I hope that shows. :)
Thank you all for reading and for those of you who comment. Every new comment in my inbox makes me realize that I'm not talking to myself. haha

Tomorrow's the Big Day!

No, I'm not talking about the fact that tomorrow is my birthday... even BIGGER! Tomorrow is the day when all my hard work pays off. Well- hopefully anyway. ;)
Tomorrow I'm presenting the proposed Harajuju Lovers line to Gwen and her team! I'm super excited and I REALLY hope they like it. My stomach hurts and I can't eat. I'm super nervous!!
I've been working on the line for about a month now and assuming everything is approved, I'm going to Japan and then China at the end of this month to have the samples made!
We will be launching the line at the August shoe show! (for more info you can check Titan's website)
Anyway, wish me luck! I guess either way I get to spend my birthday hanging out with Gwen so it can't be all bad, right? ;)
